Time is flying by! We’re turning the corner to fall, but I am still trying to keep up with my vegetable garden–I have been overrun with beans! Somehow it’s already been over a week since this essay of mine appeared at The Brevity Blog, a truly amazing online journal and valuable reasource for the nonfiction writing community. Shout out to Dinty W. Moore and Allison K. Williams!
My piece, “Air and Light and Time: Pruning Your Writing Projects for a Better Harvest,” considers how cutting back on my unruly tomato plants might not only help the tomatoes to thrive, but will also give other, nearby veggies and herbs space to shine. The parallel between shelving my memoir, which had taken over my headspace for well over a decade, and giving myself permission to pursue other writing projects came to me this past August, and I wrote “Air and Light and Time” in a flurry. Thanks to Dinty for giving this piece some light too.
